Al Momia AKA The Night of Counting The Years is an Egyptian film shot in 1969, concerning the discovery of the cache of mummies found in Deir el-Bahari in 1881, and the tribesmen who had been looting the site. It is both a beautifully shot, contemplative film, and a very honest treatment of the cultural issues involved. In this sense, it reminds me of the Chinese film Yellow Earth.
