Late 70s / early 80s British series Blake's 7 is very impressive for broadcast TV sci-fi for a number of reasons: good back story, lots of suprising twists (and a willingness to kill off main characters), and nice overall story arc. But it mostly stands out because the main characters are so interesting. Aside from that, it also frequently had some amazing visual elements.

In one of my favorite episodes, a bunch of telepathic, psychedelic cactuses save the day. They look like lenses.

Now that is a computer interface!

The space fashions... just amazing.

And my single favorite fashion accessory from the series - the shoulder-mount wireframe geometry puzzle:
